Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary GM, Michael Kelly, welcomed Federal Members and Ministers as to show support for their national $1.2 billion tourism package and extension of the zoos and aquarium program by six months.

Following their longest closure in its 73-year history and having to battle through multiple lockdowns, border closures and state/local elections, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (CWS) has stared down defeat and come out the winner. Now, CWS General Manager Michael Kelly, has welcomed the news of a national $1.2 billion tourism package and extension of the zoos and aquarium program by six months. Mr Kelly welcomed Federal Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Dan Tehan MP, along with Federal Minister for Industry, Science and Technology Karen Andrews MP, Federal Minister Angie Bell MP, and Federal Minister Stuart Robert MP to the Sanctuary saying:

"our organisation can continue the important care of our animals in these challenging times. These announcements are welcomed news for the ongoing recovery of the Gold Coast's tourism sector."

Michael went on the outline that Zoos and aquariums in Australia welcome over 20 million people through their gates every year, and they're vital in educating our community in all the facets of wildlife here in Australia.

"But, more importantly, they also support critical breeding and release programs, as well as research and conservation programs, to ensure the survival of our threatened and endangered species."

Michael says he's confident that the investment would translate to a boost in visitor numbers.
