Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary launches new augmented reality game

Tech-savvy tweens can immerse themselves in the ancient world of Lost Valley with Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s new augmented reality game and mobile app.

The Lost Valley Game, on Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s free interactive smartphone app, brings Lost Valley’s animals into the palm of your hand. Find and photograph 11 virtual creatures hiding throughout the prehistoric supercontinent of Gondwana.

In the game, photographs are ranked for their creativity. They can be stored and shared, ensuring the voyage back in time is unforgettable.

The virtual world and reality intertwine in the Lost Valley Game. While playing, meet unique, real-life species including friendly Lemurs, Cotton-top tamarins, a Green Iguana and curious free-flying birds, who are living alongside quirky flamingos and ferocious dinosaurs that can only be spotted using the game.

Tracing the footprints of dinosaurs, explore five acres of stunning rainforest. Experience life on Gondwana before it split, forming present-day Australia as well as many other continents around the world such as Africa, South America and Antarctica.

One of the largest free-flight walk-in aviaries in the Southern Hemisphere, Lost Valley is home to more than 300 species of unique flora and fauna, making it the 73-year-old Sanctuary’s biggest attraction yet.

“Augmented reality is the perfect tool for young people to explore the forgotten world of Gondwana and learn about the environment that existed millions of years ago,” says Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s General Manager Michael Kelly.

Live just in time for school holidays, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary’s new app will bring fresh magic and even more convenience to visitors. The interactive mapping tool allows visitors to easily find their favourite attractions and record and share highlights throughout the day.

Visitors can also plan their day and receive push notifications to remind them when the shows they want to see are about to begin.

“Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is constantly evolving and creating tools to engage and entertain our visitors, so they can come back time and time again and always experience something new,” says Michael.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a COVID-safe venue, whose open-air environment is safe for all.
