Merger with Southern Gold Coast Chamber of Commerce

The Creek to Creek and Southern Gold Coast chambers are considering a merger between the two Chambers. A small group from each Executive Committee have been meeting regularly and we are close to calling for EGM’s to occur to move us to the next phase.

The two issues that some of our members have asked about were the timings and the mechanism. The timing is now likely to be at the end of June or early July, which is why we’ve given you a date saver today. The mechanism is, that an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) has to be called by each Chamber, and this is to be held so that a vote can take place on four key questions. The first two questions are if the Chambers should merge, and if the Chambers should adopt a new set of combined rules. Each of these questions would require 75% of those present to approve them. To vote each person must be a financial member of the chamber for the EGM they attend. The other two resolutions would be to appoint a small interim management committee and to give that committee the powers required to complete the merger. Both of these resolutions require a simple majority to be approved.

Prior to the EGM notice would be issued and the proposed set of rules and resolutions would be tabled at the same time. The notices of EGM will need to be issued 14 days prior to the EGM occurring.
