The Surf Club Coolangatta: Prepared to adapt

From learning how to cook, getting your monday motivation or keeping up with your CPR Refresher: there is a lot to learn from The Surf Club Coolangatta and its response to current times.

The local Surf Club remains a staple to the Gold Coast lifestyle but now it's tackling a modern crisis.

When restrictions threatened to shut the doors on The Surf Club Coolangatta, the team had to adapt in order to generate proceeds for the coolangatta lifesavers. General Manager, Steve Edgar, explains "we have had to shift our focus as we endeavored to engage our members in a number of ways". The club has taken the lead on the social media front with cooking segments, a series of staff and lifesaver Q&A interviews, motivational work outs and shifting some popular promotions, such as members' birthday nights, online. Though the club may be facing an uphill battle it continues to set a high standard for focus on community by reaching out to members with health and welfare checks. "I think it is up to us to provide a great product with excellent friendly and honest service and most certainly must be relevant. Our community will always support their own." says Steve.

When restrictions are lifted and local pubs can re-open, the Coolangatta surf club says its ready to safely welcome back the local community, "we have totally sterilized all fridges cool rooms freezers, dismantled the kitchen and bars deep cleaned every piece of equipment, undertaken major pest fumigation, currently repainting the interior of the club.".

Mr. Edgar believes that business needs to be ready to change and open to support but should take active steps such as "lower costs of overheads where possible and increase incremental profits. This may be done through system changes or equipment changes. We will all need to be more efficient to survive.". Whether its learning how to cook from Head Chef Jonathan, getting motivated by Caroline or keeping up with your CPR Refresher with chief training officer Belinda, there is a lot to learn from Surf Club Coolangatta and its response to current times.
