Daylight saving petition

A group based in South-East Queensland has set up a formal petition with the Queensland Parliament to promote daylight savings for the region.

This group has gathered approximately 15,000 signatures to date and hope to gain many more.

The purpose of the petition is to bring to the attention of Queensland Parliament that unreasonably early sunrises and sunsets cause great distress to many Queenslanders, and costs businesses more than $4 billion a year in lost interstate and local commerce.

The group feels that having daylight saving would greatly benefit our region, and would put South-East Queensland on the same time zone as the rest of the eastern states, meaning business schedules would be harmonised. It would also allow for recreation and consumption (e.g. golfing, watersports, dining outdoors) in the afternoons.
