Palm Beach SLSC: Now is the time to come together.

Palm Beach SLSC is encouraging business to connect in order to learn and sustain.

Described by locals as a place to come together with family and friends, share a beer and enjoy the view: Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club is calling on business in the region to do the same.

COVID-19 has fundamentally changed the marketplace and without doubt, caused an economic slowdown. Every business has its own way of optimizing the outcome for themselves but for many, it’s about minimizing losses and it’s about maximizing gains. For business and residents across the southern Gold Coast, COVID-19 is the perfect storm of isolation and circumscribed thinking. General Manager for Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club, Daragh Murphy, is calling on business to avoid this circumscribed approach and come together to conquer the COVID-19 challenge.

Mr Murphy admits that his industry has undergone an enormous change and that the change will continue to affect the industry beyond the lockdown but says that "through collaboration and conversation, many new ideas and answers evolve". Voted the Gold Coasts best surf club of 2019, Palm Beach SLSC hasn't forgotten its incredible customer service but has had to pivot towards including community safety and business connectivity.

The club has found a way to incorporate both into its immediate business model by "conducting a full audit of all our health & hygiene practices, as well as rolling out a suite of training courses for our team". In doing this the club has engaged a local training provider, Ignite Education, to upskill staff and a local business regarding a kitchen refurbishment. Mr Murphy says that "Working together to conquer these challenges, also has the advantage of creating long-lasting relationships & connections within our community".

The club has encouraged business to come together, learn together, grow together and after the worst of it; share a cheeky beverage together.
