Reform of the training sector: $7 billion injection

The Morrison Government’s skills reform agenda has committed almost $7 billion this financial year to Australia’s vocational education and training sector.

In 2017, an estimated 4.2 million students were enrolled in VET with an Australian training provider, representing almost a quarter of the Australian population aged 15–64 years. In comparison, in the same year, there were 1.5 million higher education students enrolled with an Australian higher education provider, and 3.8 million school students enrolled in Australia. It's clear that vocational training has, prior to and during the pandemic, become a vital first step to the success of our next generation. This is why, at the seat of Wright, Senator Zed Seselja
, the Chief Executive of Master Builders Australia, Denita Wawn, and Senator Michaelia Cash met to announce the Morrison Government’s skills reform agenda.

The announcement included a commitment of almost $7 billion this financial year to Australia’s vocational education and training sector; Including, $1.2 billion to Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements Program which will provide a 50% wage subsidy for up to 100,000 new apprenticeships and traineeships. The Government’s $74 billion JobMaker Plan is a key element of the Government’s Economic Recovery Plan for Australia, designed to support a stronger economic recovery and bring more Australians back to work.
