Small Business Grant: CLOSED

Did you miss out? You're not alone. SGC Chamber President Hilary Jacobs stands up for small business and explains the $100 million scheme was simply not enough.

The Palaszczuk Government announced last week grants of up to $10,000 for struggling businesses. The $100 million scheme ran out within five days and desperate small businesses have a passionate voice in that of Burleigh MP Michael Hart who has questioned the grant’s process. Mr. Hart explains on his Facebook that "[The Queensland Government] opened a Small Business Adaption Grant last week offering a glimmer of hope to some before snapping it shut with no warning. Rather than accepting all applications and assessing on merit, it appears it’s a first come first served basis which doesn’t equal value for Queensland taxpayer’s dollars".

Southern Gold Coast Chamber President, Hilary Jacob, said the number of small businesses gaining support was not enough to help the state’s economy. “Small business employs 44 per cent of the private sector employees in Queensland, the grants were $10,000; that means only 2 per cent of small businesses were ever going to be able to get success from that". After imploring Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to visit the Gold Coast and see firsthand the financial and emotional damage caused by her refusal to reopen the border, SGC Chamber President Hilary Jacobs met with Laura Gerber MP and Michael Hart MP to voice the frustrations of the local business community.
