UPDATE: Qld Border

Federal ministers, NSW premier and Gold Coast businesses bosses take aim at Queensland’s hard-line border closure

Gold Coast business leaders, senior federal ministers and the NSW premier are cranking up the heat on hardline Queensland border blocks, urging the “insanity to stop”. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the medical advice supporting the state's hard border has been made public almost every day, after the prime minister again urged her to explain the policy. This follows a recent federal court decision which effectively confirmed the states legal ability and right to put in place border measures in order to protect the health and safety of Queenslanders.

The SGC Chamber has deep concerns that the proportionality of economic harm, when compared to current COVID cases both in QLD and NSW, may be getting lost in the apparent rush to be “the best” at something.

At this time The Queensland Government still has implemented enhanced border control measures, including border passes and identification screening to help protect Queensland.
